Sydney Passes New "ANTI-PROTEST" Laws
NSW parliament passes new laws bringing extremely harsh penalties on non-violent protesters.
NSW Liberal Premier Dominic Perrottet along with the backing of the Labor party has passed tough new legislation that is being labeled as ‘ANTI-PROTEST’ Laws.
Under the new legislation, any protester that is blocking main roads, rail lines, tunnels, bridges, and industrial estate will be fined up to $22,000 and jailed for a maximum of 2 years!
Amnesty International, a non-government organisation that focuses on human rights, has claimed that, with this new legislation, the NSW government is subverting democracy. Amnesty claims this action to be a “chilling effect on the freedom of assembly.”.
Since these new laws have been announced 32 people have been arrested by the newly launched strike force guard to prevent, investigate, and disrupt unauthorised protests.
This crackdown has impacted climate activists the most out of any other group, as they tend to protest with small groups that cause a big economic impact.
Earlier this week i attended a climate change protest just to understand their perspective and their thoughts regarding these new laws… Here’s the result:
Now I would think that this would be legislation that would bring the left, the right, and center all together for this one cause but when I ask Veronica, a Pro-Protest Climate Activist if she supported the Freedom Protesters, things took a little turn…
I mean with this first girl that I interviewed, her name was Veronica and she was from Amnesty International (as you can see from her jumper). She said a beautiful sentence at the start of the interview; “The right to protest is a good indication of a healthy democracy.” however, when I ask her about the ‘FREEDOM PROTESTS’ she begins to take a turn for the worst…
This started to become an eerie trend among these protestors. They were here marching and fighting for the right to protest however, they aren’t supportive of the Freedom Protesters’ protest against mandatory vaccination and lockdowns.
This next girl I began by asking her for her message for commuters trying to get to and from work… She once again gives a brilliant explanation and i would agree with a lot of what she is saying but then things once again take a turn towards the end when i ask her “Do you support the freedom protesters.”
Here we have an older gentleman claiming that freedom is not something that “they” wanted us to have and then begins to say that the ‘Freedom Protest’ in Australia has a conservative agenda and that they had no restrictions on their ability to protest. At that moment I interject and remind him of one of the harshest lockdowns on the planet…
Lastly, we have a Ross here. He had his two friends arrested and jailed for “allegedly” looking to organise protests. I really enjoyed my chat with Ross. So much so that i was incredibly happy at the end of this video to let everyone know that my lawyer had taken on the cases of Ross’ two friends and after 3.5 weeks in jail we were able to successfully get him out and back with his family!
In a speech to parliament, NSW Labor leader Chris Minns said the opposition supported the legislation as it was important "to the safety and security" of NSW.
"It is shameful to think that it's appropriate to disrupt the lives of ordinary people as they go about their business in the pursuit of your own particular aims," he said.
This new legislation is not only a ‘Climate Activist’ issue. This issue affects all groups from all walks of life no matter what side of the fence you sit on e.g. Left/Right.
MY HONEST OPINION:
I believe that the people of the right should have been at this protest, this week, to support the people on the left as they fight against this ‘ANTI-PROTEST’ bill however, after speaking to the people on the ground at this protest. It clearly showed that the left was not willing to even have the right there to support them. This is a BIG issue.
For us to find common ground and come together against draconian measures like these. We must be able to understand one another, appreciate our differences, and be able to put those differences aside for a common cause. This is how we break the Matrix.
